In the summer of 1971, at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Station in Cuba, the U. S. Marine Eskin Kuhn observed two apparent pterosaurs flying in clear daylight, at “close range.” The long-tailed featherless flying creatures he soon sketched, for Kuhn was a talented artist. The Marine was interviewed, in 2010, by the American cryptozoologist Jonathan Whitcomb.

In May of 2011, another eyewitness, Patty Carson, came forward with her story of a living pterosaur at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Station. She was only about six years old, around 1965,  when she and her brother saw the strange “pterodactyl,” which now appears to have been the same species as the two seen by Kuhn six years later.

In the words of the eyewitness Patty Carson:

We were walking down near the boat yards, headed home. We lived at the end of the road, last house, by the radio tower. . . . There were some stagnant pools here and there, a few inches deep in the area. We were walking through that scrub area, and suddenly it [the “pterodactyl”] sat up, as if it had been eating something or resting. . . . right in front of us about thirty feet away. All of us froze for about five seconds, then it leaned to its left and took off with a fwap fwap fwap sound, in a big hurry, more of a scramble, and flew to its left and disappeared behind trees and terrain.

I looked at his [Eskin Kuhn’s] drawing, and if I had to make any changes I would make the tail maybe six inches shorter and the wings maybe 10% longer, maybe even 15%, but the proportions of the head are very good, and the body and the hind legs are exactly as I remember.
