Snuggle up to the fire with a chess set
Stories, legends, documented games and ones that sprang up in the twilight of a romantic imagination—those can be found in films in which chess has creeped through a back door or taken over the whole story. Was Capablanca in Casablanca? What full-length film has the most chess games or the most emphasis on the game? Searching for Bobby Fischer comes to mind. For a short film, we could turn to Pixar’s comical Geri’s Game, a 3D animation. See the link on the right: “Chess in the movies.” Did Humphrey Bogart Draw With Reshevsky? Yes, but Samuel Reshevsky was playing a 70-board exhibition (in 1955 or 1956). It’s been said that the famous chess master let the famous actor off more easily than he needed to. Bogart passed away within two years. Computer or Real Chess Games? This site encourages real chess games: human versus human in face-to-face competition, whether it be the most friendly version or an intellectual battle to the finish.
