Art at the Cerritos Library

You can find more than books at the Cerritos Library.

Art

The Cerritos Library features the works of artists with national and international reputations. Located throughout the building, these works of art enhance and comment on the themes created for the various areas of the building. Information on the artists and works housed in the library is available [on the Cerritos Library web site] as well as in printed form at the adult reference and information desk.

About the Artist Bruce Everett (The painting “Las Virgenes Valley, 2001” is in the Craftsman area of the library)

Bruce Everett lives and works in Los Angeles County. His technical mastery became evident at an early age. Upon visiting the Chicago Library as a young boy, he saw a mural size painting that inspired him to follow a career in art. This Library connection makes the Cerritos painting a very personal and meaningful statement. Everett studied painting at the University of Iowa and University of California, Santa Barbara, graduating with a Master of Fine Arts in 1968. Although he was trained as an abstract painter, he later became interested in portraying the landscape in a realistic manner.

Beware Of Scams Related To Census

Each household, in Cerritos and other cities, should receive a Census questionnaire in the spring of 2010. If the questionnaire is not returned, another request and questionnaire will be mailed. Households that do not respond to the second questionnaire will be visited by Census personnel between April and July.

But beware of any person who comes to your door between now and April 1, 2010, claiming to be gathering data for the census. Census workers will be knocking on doors between April and July. Real census takers wear an official badge and carry a black canvas shoulder bag reading “U.S. Census Bureau.” The badge does not have a photo ID but it has the taker’s name and signature. If you have doubts about a person’s identity, ask to see a photo ID.

Energy Efficiency Incentives

The City of Cerritos has approved a “Green Development Program” that involves incentives for existing residential upgrades that include building permit and plan check fee waivers up to a maximum of $1,000 for green building activities which include the installation of ENERGY STAR air conditioners and water heaters or solar energy systems.

“The City of Cerritos is committed to protecting the environment, improving residents’ quality of life, and promoting sustainability. To fulfill this commitment, the City established a Green Cerritos program to provide information and resources to encourage the development of a green environment comprised of green buildings and landscaping in Cerritos.”
