Long Beach Childcare Looks To Cerritos

The Whitcomb Family Daycare recently began marketing for Cerritos families. Rather than hide the length of the drive through Lakewood, the Whitcombs created web pages giving detailed driving instructions. They emphasize the closeness of their daycare to Western Lakewood (4503 Walnut, Long Beach).

Music exposure might not be unique to this home child care, but a Google search with “‘free piano lessons’ ‘child care’” gives six out of ten (Google page one) results for Whitcomb Family Daycare pages; obviously they have been marketing free piano lessons. The third page of this Google search seems to turn up another child care with free piano lessons, but lessons are given in exchange for the parents participating in the choir at a church in Lebanon, Pennsylvania: an even longer drive from Cerritos, California.

Jonathan and Gladys Whitcomb also have a web page about the benefits of piano lessons for children. In addition, they emphasize their recently-started reading program “WORDS,” to help pre-schoolers quickly learn to read complete words as early as age three. “WORDS” involves visual learning: images being combined with the words for those images.

Beware Of Scams Related To Census

Each household, in Cerritos and other cities, should receive a Census questionnaire in the spring of 2010. If the questionnaire is not returned, another request and questionnaire will be mailed. Households that do not respond to the second questionnaire will be visited by Census personnel between April and July.

But beware of any person who comes to your door between now and April 1, 2010, claiming to be gathering data for the census. Census workers will be knocking on doors between April and July. Real census takers wear an official badge and carry a black canvas shoulder bag reading “U.S. Census Bureau.” The badge does not have a photo ID but it has the taker’s name and signature. If you have doubts about a person’s identity, ask to see a photo ID.
